One of the paradises in the Cadiz Province is the Sierra de Grazalema, a municipality. Here you'll find pretty white washed villages, called 'pueblos blancos,' that dot the hillsides, valleys, and ravines of the Cadiz Mountains. If you are looking to spend your holiday in Grazalema, see our online booking system to find and reserve accommodation. Country houses, rural apartments, family hotels, etc. Surrounded by the Sierras del Pinar, and the Endrinal, also situated inside the "Parque Natural," Grazalema is one of the prettiest and quaint villages along the route of the Pueblos Blancos on the Cadiz side of Andalusia.
The city is of Arabic origin, denominated by Gran Zulema, where its actual name comes from. In 1485, the village was conquered by the Duke of Arcos. It had a large economic peak after the 17th century, thanks to the drapery business that produced the famous Blanket from Grazalema.
It is known as the city with the most rain in all of Spain. But on the other side of things, in the area archeologists have found remains of a certain human activity in prehistoric times. Aside from the various culture that have come before, the historical prologue of the place started with the Roman colonization of the Mediterranean.
Its exceptional rainy climate provides a lush, green scenery during summer, and snowy roof tops with smoking chimneys in winter. Famous in Grazalema are its cheeses, wool, artisan crafts, sausages and dried meats, and artisan desserts.
There are many things to do and see in Grazalema, long excursions in beautiful landscapes, hiking along the Guadalete River, or through the Pinsapos Forest, trek through the Ermita de la Garganta caves and ravines, practice climbing at 1500 metre peaks, soar through the air with free fly sports, explore caves, go cycling and more.
For all of these things above, Grazalema is a nature lover's paradise, ideal for those looking for rural tourism. |
